Irrigation cleared for the entire lake

on Tue, 08/07/2012 - 14:21

Lycott Environmental came out yesterday (Aug 6th) and confirmed that it is now safe to irrigate from the entire lake - even in Monahans Cove and Basins 3/4. I'm seeing the start of some algae blooms but nothing too bad yet.

Basin 1 to get two small spot treatments

on Tue, 06/05/2012 - 15:52

Slight change of plans - altough this is still covered in the current Order of Conditions.  Since residents (and Lycott) reported Water Starwort heavier than usual in basin 1, we are acquiring the additional funds from the town of Stow (or the LBA Herbicide fund - details still being worked out) to treat 2 small pockets of weeds.  You can see in this map where those two treatments will be.  Below is the email that was sent out to the LBA email alias.

"As mentioned in the initial report from Lycott Environmental, there were pockets (2 of substance) of Water Starwort found in Basin 1.  Those

Herbicide Treatment schedule and details

on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 18:35

Below are the details of this summers planned herbicide treatments.  In summary, Basin 3, 4 and Monihans cove are getting diquat (Reward) and fluridone (Sonar) because they have Milfoil, Curly-Leaf Pondweed, Water Starwort, and Fanwort.  Basin 2 is getting diquat (reward) to tackle the Variable Milfoil, Curly-Leaf Pondweed, and Water Starwort.  Some Water Starwort was seen in basin 1 but  is contained in pockets 10-15 ft from shore - those weeds are not targeted because a) they are not too invasive and b) our weed budget requires us to prioritize the bigest areas of need.

With the great weather comes not-so-great weeds!

on Mon, 05/07/2012 - 14:13

As always, the weeds are back and there is a new problem child in the mix... Well, not really new but this year seems much, much worse than most for Water Starwort.  You may have noticed this little devil popping up all over, including the 1st basin.  I have included a picture I took while out fishing with the kids yesterday.  The good news is that assuming there are no problems at town meeting tonight, Stow and Hudson will again be funding treatment of the lake again.
