With the great weather comes not-so-great weeds!

on Mon, 05/07/2012 - 14:13

As always, the weeds are back and there is a new problem child in the mix... Well, not really new but this year seems much, much worse than most for Water Starwort.  You may have noticed this little devil popping up all over, including the 1st basin.  I have included a picture I took while out fishing with the kids yesterday.  The good news is that assuming there are no problems at town meeting tonight, Stow and Hudson will again be funding treatment of the lake again.

Lycott Environmental did another fantastic job off helping us manage the lake.  Please review the attached report and let me (Kent) know if you have any questions.

More details about the weed mitigation drawdown

on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 18:11

The LBC is circulating the following details regarding this years weed mitigation drawdown:

The annual winter drawdown of Lake Boon for weed mitigation is scheduled to start this year after October 1st.  This year the lake will drop 12 inches.  The boards will be taken out of the dam by the Stow Highway Department.  They will be dropping the lake slowly.  If there is any sign of a well having trouble, the boards will immediately be put back in the dam so that the lake will rise to the level where the well was previously unaffected.

A perfect day for our Walk-A-Thon

on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 12:11

The weather for our 2011 Walk-A-Thon was perfect... for the most part :-)   It was a cool windy day but warm enough to be comfortable.  And apart from a shower that rolled on through at the end, it was sunny and clear.

Annual drawdown begins on October 1st

on Tue, 09/27/2011 - 20:30

With some leaves turning colors, an invasion of apple pickers and a tease of cooler weather, it must be fall.

For those of you needing to get boats in or out of boat houses or up on shore while the water is high, be aware that the beginning of the annual maintenance drawdown will begin with board removal at the dam on October 1. It is anticipated the level will be down the 6-8 inches below the level of the concrete outfall for maintenance in the next week or two.   This is the usual drawdown that has occurred as regular maintenance for years to protect from ice damage.

After that, additional

Lake Boon Water Carnival wrap-up

on Tue, 09/06/2011 - 13:07

Another awesome Lake Boon Water Carnival is in the books.  Although Tropical Storm Irene made it a little interesting, it did not dampen the spirits or energy level of the participants!

Check out some pictures from the day!
Check out the results from the days events here

On Friday, August 27th, the lighting of the lake went off in perfect weather – although the rest of the water carnival events ended up being postponed a week.  The band, Facepaint, was spectacular again this year.  They got a late start due to some personal issues and were unable to make up time.

Herbicide booster treatment scheduled for August 17th

on Mon, 08/15/2011 - 23:46

Lycott Environmental continues to do a great job in helping us manage our lake.  They recently came out and did a lake survey and in doing so, determined that a section of basin three has some Fanwort (Cabomba).  Therefore, they will be doing a spot treatment on August 17th.

There are some water-use restrictions as seen in the below link but it is ONLY in basin 3.  Basin 1, 2, and 4 are unaffected.  Please review the below links for details.

Booster Treatment Scheduled for July 19th - PLEASE READ!

on Fri, 07/08/2011 - 14:39

Lycott Environmental continues to be a great partner to the lake.  After the June herbicide treatment, they performed a follow-up survey and found that the lake was in great shape with two exceptions.  The first is that there is some Fanwort (Cabomba) in basin 3 in that horseshoe cove with the beaver dam.  The other concern is that there is some Variable Leaf Milfoil back in Monahan's cove, along with a few Fanwort plants (which Lycott will hand-pull).

Since this is a relatively small treatment that only impacts certain sections of the lake, the restrictions are a little less stringent
